YOU'RE GOING TO DIE PRESENTS: A WEEKLY COMMUNITY GRIEF RELEASE
You're Going to Die Presents:
a Weekly Community Grief Release
Online Grieving Space
for Witnessing & Being Witnessed
w/the You're Going to Die Community
EVERY WEDNESDAY
from 5-6pm [PACIFIC]
JOIN HERE: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/M6KUEPhnRh-MaALoZNoFLQ
Please take a few minutes to read our GRIEF RELEASE COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS before you join.
This space is for everyone who might feel supported by gathering in community once a week to make space for ongoing and/or new grief in our lives. We often offer music and readings and time for each participant to share. The length of shares may depend on who's in attendance each week - and there may be times when we make extra room for those who especially need our listening, remembering that our listening is its own medicine, not just for who we listen to, but for ourselves.
Please arrive on time. This is essential to the depth of the container we are able to hold together. We will close entry 10 minutes after the start of the event.
Though it is okay to join and not share, so much of what is possible in these spaces is based on trust, so if you are willing to introduce yourself and be on camera, that can go a long way to creating the kind of safety we know is possible in this space. This is especially helpful for drop-in offerings like this one.
This online event is FREE, every week. If you are in a position to offer a small donation, we very much welcome your generosity. Your contributions help us continue this offering.

Becoming Sanktuaree: Inhabiting & Being Inhabited by Ecologies of Care, an online & in-person experiential practice space
We’re honored to be contributing to Becoming Sanktuaree: Inhabiting and Being Inhabited by Ecologies of Care, a beautiful and brave practice-based offering from @unashay + @the_emergence_network.
This is for the grief-tenders, the artists of repair, the edgewalkers, the refuge-makers.
For those dreaming new ways of being in a world unraveling.
𖦦 October 2 – November 16, 2025
• 4 live online sessions
• Optional 3-day in-person sanctuary at the mystical Dar al-Islam in Abiquiú, NM
• Practice, connection, listening, and care
If you’re longing for true sanctuary — not as escape, but as presence — come with us.
I’ll be a guest-host alongside Chelsea Coleman for one of the sessions, offering learnings and practices from our own lives and journeys and we would be honored to meet you inside this space.

In a time where loneliness has become an epidemic, and unmet grief resides below and between so much of the world's preventable suffering⎯ we long to inhabit sanctuary in its myriad of forms. This October and November, únashay and our partners from ten (The Emergence Network) invite you to join us, for:
Becoming Sanktuaree: Inhabiting and Being Inhabited by Ecologies of Care, an online and in-person experiential practice space.
Throughout Becoming Sanktuaree, we will offer community-held space(s) of encounter, inquiry, and creation; inviting participants into practice and dialogue, while cultivating our capacities to listen, be present with what is, build relationship, and play with what pulses below, between and around our bodies.
Guest-hosts from around the world will join us, not as ‘experts’ or even ‘teachers’ (although learning is inevitable), but ordinary humans, courting us… at the hem of an always unfolding miracle.

You're Going to Die: Poetry, Prose & Everything Goes...
is an open mic event, the communal offering for us to explore the conversation of death & dying, to embrace our losses & mortality, to grieve, bereave & honor those we’ve lost & love… while all the while making room for simply being ALIVE.
Sign-ups will be the night of & the list fills up quickly, so if you want to perform, you’d better get there early…
If you’re going to perform, keep it under 5 MINUTES. That’s right: 5 MINUTES. WE WILL TIME YOU. And we will hug you when we have to stop you [just to make it easier on you (or harder – depending on your propensity for intimacy)].
Poetry, prose, music, dancing, comedy, drama, happy, sad, & on & on & on… Remember: EVERYTHING GOES… so do whatever you want.
You don’t have to perform anything; the audience is as essential as the performers.
Please don’t perform anything with a setup that takes much more time than the time it takes for you to walk onstage. Honestly, plugging things in is endlessly boring. If you need to borrow an instrument, figure it out before you’re called to the stage.
IMPORTANT ::: DON’T TAKE YOURSELF SO SERIOUSLY. Come and have fun. The end. Remember. Someday, we won’t exist and neither will the English language. If you choose to take yourself seriously, then take yourself so seriously that it’s stupid. Ridiculousness is encouraged.
You're Going to Die. No. Really. You are.

Lydia Violet is an accomplished Iranian-American multi-instrumentalist weaving together Southern blues, American roots, and Iranian folk music traditions. In her live band she combines fiddle, banjo, and luscious 3-part harmonies to offer a soul-folk revival experience. Her weaving of West African percussion, clawhammer banjo, and gospel-inspired vocal parts take her audiences deep into the cave of roots music wonders. ♬ www.lydiafiddle.com ♬
Lydia also has studied closely with deep ecology elder and Buddhist scholar Joanna Macy for the past 9 years, learning how we can metabolize our pain for the world into energy for resilience, action, and community. She runs The Music As Medicine Project, a non-profit dedicated to creating access to music and music education as tools for cultivating resilient cultures in our communities.

Join us for a moving evening of performance, ritual, and collective experience honoring the life and legacy of Joanna Macy — visionary teacher, ecophilosopher, and founder of The Work That Reconnects, who passed into the mystery on July 19th, leaving behind a rich legacy including decades of dedicated work to help us metabolize our planetary grief and source from a wild love for the world.
Drawing on Joanna Macy’s Council of All Beings practice, this event invites us to expand our perspective beyond the human and reconnect with the wider community of life. Through creative expression — music, poetry, and participatory ritual — we’ll give voice to the Earth’s many beings and hear their counsel for these times, joining in a shared act of listening, mourning, celebration, and imagination.
Guided by Weaving Earth’s spirit of Interspecies Hospitality & Earth Intimacy practices, we’ll weave story, song and interactive experience as we move through the Spiral of the Work that Reconnects:
- Gratitude for the Miracle of Life
- Honoring Our Pain for the World
- Homecoming to the Body of Earth
- Going Forth in Service to Life
Co-hosted by Lydia Violet and Lauren Dalberth Hage. Featuring special guests Drew Dellinger, Karisha Longaker of MaMuse, Logan Navar, Jules Indelicato, Kele Nitoto, and KJ Song, and the Weaving Earth team.
Audio of Joanna Macy’s own voice will be interwoven throughout the evening, a living thread calling us to remember: even in times of great peril, the beauty and wonder of the Earth endure — and so does our capacity to respond with love.
Come as you are.
Seating is first come, first served.

Lydia Violet Harutoonian- is an Iranian-Armenian-American facilitator-scholar, grief-worker, and folk multi-instrumentalist who studied and worked with Joanna Macy for the past 16 years. She founded and runs The School for The Great Turning, which creates access to educational and therapeutic programs to empower humanity's life-sustaining legacy. In her music, she weaves together her songwriting, folk standards, Iranian ballads, 3-part harmonies, fiddle, banjo, and collective singing into an altar of music to lay our most pressing questions and verdant prayers.
Weaving Earth Center for Relational Education provides nature-based education for action at the confluence of ecological, social and personal systems change. We believe that education must critically engage inherited systems of separation and domination, and at the same time, responsibly recollect a deeper human inheritance: stories of interrelationship, belonging, dignity and respect.
Drew Dellinger is a poet, writer, and speaker whose work bridges ecology, justice, and the sacred. The author of "Love Letter to the Milky Way," his poetry has been performed in hundreds of venues worldwide. A student of Thomas Berry and an advocate for the “Great Turning,” Drew weaves art, activism, and cosmology into an inspiring vision for our times.
Karisha Longaker is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist best known as one half of the beloved duo MaMuse. With rich harmonies and heart-centered presence, her music invites deep connection, joy, and remembrance of the sacredness of life. Rooted in gratitude and service, Karisha’s voice carries a prayer for beauty, healing, and belonging in these transformative times.
Kele Nitoto (he/him) is a percussionist, vocalist, and educator based in Oakland. With roots in West African, Haitian, and Congolese rhythms, he blends traditional drumming with hip-hop, storytelling, and spiritual practice. He founded Oakland Hand Drums and performs with groups like Wildchoir, using music as a tool for connection, healing, and cultural remembrance.
Jules Indelicato (they/them) is a musician and sound designer based in San Francisco, CA. In addition to being a familiar face in the Bay Area music scene, Jules is an empathic grassroots community organizer who is deeply committed to driving positive change by advocating for the people and places working to make our communities more inclusive, equitable, and magical.

Join us as we write about grief with an eye towards the experience of the reader. You’re Going to Die has for years led supportive workshops with a unique space for people to express grief in writing.
There are two main goals in writing: to express yourself and to tell a compelling story. Those aren’t mutually exclusive things. There is a way that both of those qualities can be at their highest at the same time.
—————————-
YG2D member and Oregon Book Award finalist Nick Jaina has published three books. For almost a decade he has taught memoir writing workshops online and in person, exploring dozens of different tools and techniques to open up and create the best story possible from our own lives. He is excited to bring those ideas to the emotionally supportive environment of the YG2D workshop.
Chelsea Coleman is an SF Bay Area singer-songwriter and the Creative Director & Cofounder of YG2D, where she has been helping create and hold space for others to creatively express themselves through the touchpoint of our shared impermanence since 2012. As a singer-songwriter and storyteller she leads by example, by alchemizing her experiences of loss and complex grief into lyrics and melodies that resonate with others and meet them in their vulnerability with a sense of belonging and inspiration.

*Nick Jaina is a musician and author originally from Sacramento who has lived in Portland, New York, and New Orleans. He was an Oregon Book Award finalist in 2015 for his memoir Get It While You Can. His writing has appeared in Atlantic Monthly, McSweeney's Quarterly and the journal Oregon Humanities. He co-founded and was music director for a ballet company in New York City called Satellite that involved dancers from Juilliard and the New York City Ballet and performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, garnering praise from The New York Times. He has composed scores for feature films and documentaries, including All Sorts, Cement Suitcase, and Elemental: Reimagine Wildfire.
His new album The Monster Mash is a collection of powerfully intimate songs, most featuring just electric guitar and vocals, matching the aesthetic of his live show.
Motel Void writes, "The Monster Mash is personal, filled with vivid imagery that many listeners will recognize in their own lives. At its core, the album celebrates not fitting neatly into categories. It’s a moving work for anyone who has ever felt slightly out of step with the mainstream – and found meaning in that difference."

You're Going to Die Presents: JEWISH GRIEF IN COMMUNITY
You're Going to Die Presents:
JEWISH GRIEF IN COMMUNITY
facilitated by Noa Yammer & Miriam Bolender
Many Jewish people are grieving right now.
Grief for the lives lost.
Grief for the violence committed in our name.
Grief for our ruptured communities and relationships.
Grief for silence, shame, and all that’s been too tender to name.
This 5-week online group is a space for Jewish-identifying folks to gather and grieve—
through words, stillness, sound, and voice.
To tend to our hearts and our humanness.
To be witnessed.
To speak what’s been unspoken.
To feel what’s been pushed down.
& to find new ground together.
WHEN: Tuesdays, August 16th - Sept 9th, Plus Monday September 15th
from 5:30-7:00PM PACIFIC TIME
LOCATION: ZOOM
PRICE: Sliding Scale $350-650 (Scholarships available!)
We offer the workshop on a sliding scale, but ask about further financial support if you need it to attend!
FOR MORE DETAILS and TO REGISTER E-MAIL: connect@yg2d.com
In order to preserve the uniquely intimate & personalized nature of this offering, space for this event will be limited, & registration is required to attend. We have space for up to 15 Jewish-identifying participants.
This series is a space for Jewish grief. It is not a space for debate or dogma, but for presence, feeling, and witnessing.
We come together as Jews, across lines of belief and experience, to be with the grief in our bodies: grief for what’s happening now, for what has been, and for what’s being lost—individually and collectively.
This is not a course in ideology or politics. It’s a space to be with the grief that so many of us are carrying as Jewish people right now.
Your facilitators are available to discuss this offering in more depth so that you can get a better understanding of what to expect from this offering.
About your facilitators:
Noa Yammer (she/her) is a facilitator, musician, and solidarity activist who holds spaces for deep listening, truth-telling, and collective healing. Originally from a Modern Orthodox Jewish community in New Jersey, she spent two decades in Jerusalem, working at the intersections of justice activism, storytelling, and Jewish-Palestinian solidarity.
A Harvard-trained educator and leadership coach, Noa specializes in using storytelling and nonviolent communication as a tool for connection, transformation, and social change. Whether working with individuals, teams, or communities, Noa fosters environments where silenced voices can speak, and where grief, complexity, and humanity are held with care.
Her personal journey—from silence to voice—shapes her belief that grief can be both a portal and a practice: one that softens us toward one another and reconnects us with what matters most. This softening not only nurtures our connection to ourselves and our truths, but also opens pathways for us to take courageous steps towards collective liberation and justice.
Miriam Bolender (she/her) is a musician, vocal liberation guide, and grief-holder who facilitates transformative spaces. For the better part of the last decade, she’s been an integral part of You’re Going To Die—directing and participating in the Songs For Life hospice music program, offering her presence and music in Alive Inside, YG2D’s prison program, and performing at live events.
A third-generation Holocaust survivor, Miriam carries the complex imprints of that lineage. She’s committed to cultivating and maintaining an ever-expanding lens—one where the nuance and complexity of life are honored in all their dynamic, layered, and often contradictory truths. This inner work continues to shape her devotion to creating spaces where grief, rage, fear, and confusion can be held, explored, and metabolized with courage and care.
Miriam’s own journey—from someone who spent most of her life afraid to sing, to a performer who has sung for thousands—gives her a deep understanding of what it means to reclaim the voice. As a seasoned mentor, she blends somatic practice, foundational technique, and playful exploration to support people in untethering their voices from shame and limitation. Her work—whether at a hospice bedside, inside a prison, or in a circle of people reclaiming their voices—is rooted in the prayer that feeling our hearts, remembering our interconnection, and tending to our shared humanity are essential parts of building a more loving, just, and peaceful world.

The length of shares & how many shares will depend on who's in attendance each week - while we make special room for those who especially need our listening, remembering that our listening is its own medicine, not just for who we listen to, but for ourselves.
This online event is as FREE as you need it to be, every week. Especially if you are in financial danger, let it be FREE. We're just happy you're alive & able to join. And if you're earning income (or are just generally well resourced), we very much welcome your generosity...

You’re Going to Die presents: Losing My Religion is an open mic for grieving religious & spiritual communities, healing from extremism, and navigating the complex intersections of connection, belonging, belief and identity.
Whether you extracted yourself or you were exiled from a religious/spiritual community or belief system, the grief for what and who you left behind deserves attention, recognition and care. This evening we will be making space for each other to share about the grief and trauma of leaving behind a community, restructuring our identities, finding a new sense of direction and purpose, and moving through anger. This is also a place for honoring the aspects of these communities that you miss, ways that you may have felt belonging, nurturance, spiritual connection, and maybe even spiritual authority. Together we can also explore the ways that bond building and cultivation of healthy community might be harder to navigate after experiencing the harm of exclusionary and exploitative group structures.
Though we will be making space for any form of community-related grief (not just religious/spiritual communities), we do want to extend a special invitation for folks who spent some amount of their lives immersed in high-control and/or high-demand groups.
The intention for this night is not to bash religion or to match the level of judgmentalism that many of us faced both within and outside of these groups, BUT that being said, there is plenty of room here for anger and humor, and we won’t be asking anyone to censor themselves to make other people comfortable, as we know many of you spent too many years doing that. We will also absolutely be making room for the tenderness of the grief—maybe even the deep desire for the kind of belonging we felt in these groups—that may be harder to access now, and gratitude for any parts of your experience that you want to honor and celebrate: your strength, your resilience, your connective heart, your discernment, all of it is welcome.
About your hosts:
Chelsea and Destiny were both raised in fundamentalist, evangelical charismatic Christian communities. Chelsea in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Destiny in Nashville, Tennessee, BOTH of which (I am finding out just now) claim the title of being the “Buckle of the Bible Belt” lol. They both led worship bands and spoke in tongues, prophesied and devoted themselves deeply to their beliefs and their communities and then they both left and found each other in the city of heathens, San Francisco, at an event called You’re Going to Die.
Format:
This evening is an open mic with musical performances woven throughout from Chelsea and Destiny. Come prepared or unprepared! We invite all kinds of shares, from poetry, prose and song, to spontaneous storytelling. You can share on topic or off topic! We won’t tell you what to do!! You’ve likely experienced enough of that! The only rule is that you have to limit your share to 5 minutes! We will stop you!
You don’t have to perform anything; the audience is as essential as the performers.
