Becoming Sanktuaree: Inhabiting & Being Inhabited by Ecologies of Care, an online & in-person experiential practice space

We’re honored to be contributing to Becoming Sanktuaree: Inhabiting and Being Inhabited by Ecologies of Care, a beautiful and brave practice-based offering from @unashay + @the_emergence_network.

This is for the grief-tenders, the artists of repair, the edgewalkers, the refuge-makers.
For those dreaming new ways of being in a world unraveling.

𖦦 October 2 – November 16, 2025
• 4 live online sessions
• Optional 3-day in-person sanctuary at the mystical Dar al-Islam in Abiquiú, NM
• Practice, connection, listening, and care

If you’re longing for true sanctuary — not as escape, but as presence — come with us.
I’ll be a guest-host alongside Chelsea Coleman for one of the sessions, offering learnings and practices from our own lives and journeys and we would be honored to meet you inside this space.

🜁 Learn more + register: https://unashayhome.com/becoming-sanktuaree

In a time where loneliness has become an epidemic, and unmet grief resides below and between so much of the world's preventable suffering⎯ we long to inhabit sanctuary in its myriad of forms. This October and November, únashay and our partners from ten (The Emergence Network) invite you to join us, for:

Becoming Sanktuaree: Inhabiting and Being Inhabited by Ecologies of Care, an online and in-person experiential practice space.

Throughout Becoming Sanktuaree, we will offer community-held space(s) of encounter, inquiry, and creation; inviting participants into practice and dialogue, while cultivating our capacities to listen, be present with what is, build relationship, and play with what pulses below, between and around our bodies.

Guest-hosts from around the world will join us, not as ‘experts’ or even ‘teachers’ (although learning is inevitable), but ordinary humans, courting us… at the hem of an always unfolding miracle.

You're Going to Die: Poetry, Prose & Everything Goes...
is an open mic event, the communal offering for us to explore the conversation of death & dying, to embrace our losses & mortality, to grieve, bereave & honor those we’ve lost & love… while all the while making room for simply being ALIVE.

Sign-ups will be the night of & the list fills up quickly, so if you want to perform, you’d better get there early…

If you’re going to perform, keep it under 5 MINUTES. That’s right: 5 MINUTES. WE WILL TIME YOU. And we will hug you when we have to stop you [just to make it easier on you (or harder – depending on your propensity for intimacy)].

Poetry, prose, music, dancing, comedy, drama, happy, sad, & on & on & on… Remember: EVERYTHING GOES… so do whatever you want.

You don’t have to perform anything; the audience is as essential as the performers.

Please don’t perform anything with a setup that takes much more time than the time it takes for you to walk onstage. Honestly, plugging things in is endlessly boring. If you need to borrow an instrument, figure it out before you’re called to the stage.

IMPORTANT ::: DON’T TAKE YOURSELF SO SERIOUSLY. Come and have fun. The end. Remember. Someday, we won’t exist and neither will the English language. If you choose to take yourself seriously, then take yourself so seriously that it’s stupid. Ridiculousness is encouraged.

You're Going to Die. No. Really. You are.

A Wild Love for the World: An Evening Honoring Joanna Macy - San Francisco

You’re Going to Die Presents: A Wild Love for the World: An Evening Honoring Joanna Macy @ Swedish American Hall - San Francisco!!!
Swedish American Hall
2174 Market St.
San Francisco, CA 94114
Doors at 6:30pm.
Show at 7:30pm.

TICKETS HERE: https://www.ticketweb.com/event/a-wild-love-for-the-swedish-american-hall-tickets/14612513

Join us for a moving evening of performance, ritual, and collective experience honoring the life and legacy of Joanna Macy — visionary teacher, ecophilosopher, and founder of The Work That Reconnects, who passed into the mystery on July 19th, leaving behind a rich legacy including decades of dedicated work to help us metabolize our planetary grief and source from a wild love for the world.

Drawing on Joanna Macy’s Council of All Beings practice, this event invites us to expand our perspective beyond the human and reconnect with the wider community of life. Through creative expression — music, poetry, and participatory ritual — we’ll give voice to the Earth’s many beings and hear their counsel for these times, joining in a shared act of listening, mourning, celebration, and imagination.

Guided by Weaving Earth’s spirit of Interspecies Hospitality & Earth Intimacy practices, we’ll weave story, song and interactive experience as we move through the Spiral of the Work that Reconnects:

- Gratitude for the Miracle of Life

- Honoring Our Pain for the World

- Homecoming to the Body of Earth

- Going Forth in Service to Life

Co-hosted by Lydia Violet and Lauren Dalberth Hage. Featuring special guests Drew Dellinger, Karisha Longaker of MaMuse, Logan Navar, Jules Indelicato, Kele Nitoto, and KJ Song, and the Weaving Earth team.

Audio of Joanna Macy’s own voice will be interwoven throughout the evening, a living thread calling us to remember: even in times of great peril, the beauty and wonder of the Earth endure — and so does our capacity to respond with love.

Come as you are.

Seating is first come, first served.

She founded and runs The School for The Great Turning, which creates access to educational and therapeutic programs to empower humanity's life-sustaining legacy. In her music, she weaves together her songwriting, folk standards, Iranian ballads, 3-part harmonies, fiddle, banjo, and collective singing into an altar of music to lay our most pressing questions and verdant prayers.

Weaving Earth Center for Relational Education provides nature-based education for action at the confluence of ecological, social and personal systems change. At its core, the album celebrates not fitting neatly into categories. It’s a moving work for anyone who has ever felt slightly out of step with the mainstream – and found meaning in that difference."

You’re Going to Die presents: Losing My Religion is an open mic for grieving religious & spiritual communities, healing from extremism, and navigating the complex intersections of connection, belonging, belief and identity.

Whether you extracted yourself or you were exiled from a religious/spiritual community or belief system, the grief for what and who you left behind deserves attention, recognition and care. This evening we will be making space for each other to share about the grief and trauma of leaving behind a community, restructuring our identities, finding a new sense of direction and purpose, and moving through anger. This is also a place for honoring the aspects of these communities that you miss, ways that you may have felt belonging, nurturance, spiritual connection, and maybe even spiritual authority. Together we can also explore the ways that bond building and cultivation of healthy community might be harder to navigate after experiencing the harm of exclusionary and exploitative group structures.

Though we will be making space for any form of community-related grief (not just religious/spiritual communities), we do want to extend a special invitation for folks who spent some amount of their lives immersed in high-control and/or high-demand groups.

The intention for this night is not to bash religion or to match the level of judgmentalism that many of us faced both within and outside of these groups, BUT that being said, there is plenty of room here for anger and humor, and we won’t be asking anyone to censor themselves to make other people comfortable, as we know many of you spent too many years doing that. We will also absolutely be making room for the tenderness of the grief—maybe even the deep desire for the kind of belonging we felt in these groups—that may be harder to access now, and gratitude for any parts of your experience that you want to honor and celebrate: your strength, your resilience, your connective heart, your discernment, all of it is welcome.

About your hosts:

Chelsea and Destiny were both raised in fundamentalist, evangelical charismatic Christian communities. Chelsea in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Destiny in Nashville, Tennessee, BOTH of which (I am finding out just now) claim the title of being the “Buckle of the Bible Belt” lol. They both led worship bands and spoke in tongues, prophesied and devoted themselves deeply to their beliefs and their communities and then they both left and found each other in the city of heathens, San Francisco, at an event called You’re Going to Die.

Format:

This evening is an open mic with musical performances woven throughout from Chelsea and Destiny. Come prepared or unprepared! We invite all kinds of shares, from poetry, prose and song, to spontaneous storytelling. You can share on topic or off topic! We won’t tell you what to do!! You’ve likely experienced enough of that! The only rule is that you have to limit your share to 5 minutes! We will stop you!

You don’t have to perform anything; the audience is as essential as the performers.

*M'Gilvry Allen's music comes from the place where joy and grief dance together. Using fiddle, guitar, and layers of harmony, he builds songs that feel both familiar and otherworldly - as if they've bubbled up from deep in the bones of the earth. His performances weave together traditional folk music, electronic elements, and an improvisational spirit that creates space for whatever needs to emerge. You can also find M'Gilvry in the indie folk band Maya Elise & The Good Dream, the diasporic music project Singing The Bones, and online everywhere as @mgilvryallen. - https://mgilvryallen.com/

WRITING w/MONSTERS - a Becoming Monster Festival ONLINE YG2D Writing Workshop

Join us for an online writing workshop with Becoming Monster - A Convening at the End of the Human…

As a part of ten’s (The Emergence Network) Becoming Monster Festival [FIND OUT MORE HERE], YG2D is offering Writing w/Monsters - an Online YG2D Writing Workshop [DETAILS HERE] with music throughout to inspire / soften / open / hold, with prompts focusing on creatively exploring our monsters of mortality [death, decay, grief and loss]. Participants might also explore the “monsters” of self and society – our own death and decay, so often in modern times considered to be “monstrously wrong,” as things that “shouldn’t happen,” or the monsters that desperately need confronting and reckoning, perhaps in the context of social justice or selfcare – cancer, pathogens, violence, war, chronic illness, mental illness, racism, etc. There is always room in You’re Going to Die spaces, and so then too with our Becoming Monster offering, for each community member to creatively explore what’s needed individually, resulting in a singularly unique communal conversation we all share – an experience never again replicated, simply ours and ours alone. Registration required. Maximum 20 participants.

FACILITATED BY: YG2D | Ned Buskirk & Chelsea Coleman
SESSION DATE: Wednesday, October 30th
SESSION TIME: 14:00 - 16:00 PDT | 21:00 - 23:00 UTC
LOCATION: Online everywhere

Becoming Monster is a five-day festival with virtual, hybrid and in-person components hosted by ten (The Emergence Network) and a strange ecology of friends and partners (non-human and human alike) from around the planet. This event is a space held for grieving the losses that come with living into the end-times AND playing with ideas of fabulation, imagination and questioning: what else might the human be in our crumbling, entangled, pulsating, animist world(s). It will take place October 30th – November 3rd, 2024 in a season associated with a porosity between realms, celebrations of reunion between the living and the dead, congress with the underworld and the ancestors. There will be a schedule of online offerings, as well as self-organized in-person gatherings and events in different places around the world. Some of these in situ events will welcome in virtual participation as well. Please check back to learn more about the sessions, celebrations and artistic offerings and the contributors that will bring Becoming Monster to life. This will be a highly participatory experience shaped and in-bodied by those who make offerings during our time together. Modes of inquiry and praxis may include making art together, engaging in ritual and ceremony, and opening space for heart / body / instinct-centered practices.
