---------------------

Last year, longtime YG2D friend and community member, Amanda Nagai, lost the person she was dating to a shocking death by suicide. She began to write poetry as a healing and sense-making process in the months after Peter’s death, and has shared several of them at You’re Going to Die events. Last Fall, she and You’re Going to Die’s Creative Director, Chelsea Coleman, hosted an intimate performance weaving her words and Chelsea’s original songs. The audience members were deeply touched, moved, and changed by the offering.

Amanda and Chelsea have decided to offer these vulnerable poems and songs for a public audience. This performance presents an intense and transformative arc of healing, and we’ve invited musical guest, Adrienne Shamszad, to close out the night with her musical spell-casting in a way that helps us integrate and ground ourselves at the close of the show.

In Amanda’s words: “This is the story of my journey since that moment. It is a story of distress, thought spirals, rawness, surrender, clarity, confusion, beauty, sweetness, love, and more pain and confusion. But ultimately, it is a story of the messy, sacred road of processing loss — and the deep commitment to life that I have found in my intimate examination of death.”
