YOU’RE GOING TO DIE: Poetry, Prose & Pets Are Mortal, Too!

Because our pets are our family, our pets are our friends...
This is an open mic event, to celebrate the mortal creatures who make our lives worth living, to grieve, bereave & honor those animals we love & lost... to explore the intersection where death & dying meets the animal kingdom, while all the while making room for simply being ALIVE.

With special performances by...

Sign-ups will be the night of & the list fills up quickly, so if you want to perform, you'd better arrive early...

If you're going to perform, keep it under 5 MINUTES. That's right: 5 MINUTES. We will time you. And we will hug you when we have to stop you, just to make it easier on you, or harder - depending on your propensity for intimacy.

Poetry, prose, music, dancing, comedy, drama, happy, sad, & on & on & on...remember: EVERYTHING GOES... so do what you whatever you want & do it while you're still here!

You don't have to perform anything; the audience is as essential as the performers.

Please don't perform anything with a setup that takes much more time than the time it takes for you to walk onstage. Honestly, plugging things in is endlessly boring. If you need to borrow an instrument, figure it out before you get called to perform.

**IMPORTANT** Don't take yourself too seriously. Come and have fun & enjoy a mortally-charged entertaining evening. The end. Someday, we won't exist and netiher will the English language. If you choose to take yourself seriously, then take yourself so seriously that it's stupid. Ridiculousness is encouraged.

The San Francisco SPCA, always at the forefront of animal welfare, is the fourth oldest humane society in the U.S. and the founders of the No-Kill movement. As a result of their efforts and those of their community partners, San Francisco has the lowest euthanasia rate of any major city in the United States. No adoptable dog or cat in San Francisco goes without a home, even if they have medical or other issues. The mission of the San Francisco SPCA is to save and protect animals, provide care and treatment, advocate for their welfare and enhance the human-animal bond.

You're Going to Die is a 501(c)3 nonprofit bringing people creatively into the conversation of death & dying while helping to inspire & empower them out of the context of unabashedly confronting loss & mortality. We, as a community, desperately need these spaces, honest & safe community, online & off, to gather & grieve, to suffer the losses we’ve endured or stand to lose eventually, but to do it with one another, to be together in this often unspoken truth that we ALL share: We are all going to die.
