YOU’RE GOING TO DIE: Poetry, Prose & Everything Goes
is a total open mic event, with no set or featured performers,
but only the communal offering for us to explore the conversation of death & dying, to embrace our losses & mortality,
to grieve, bereave & honor those we’ve lost & love…
while all the while making room for simply being ALIVE.

Sign-ups will be the night of & the list fills up quickly, so if you want to perform, you’d better get there early…

If you’re going to perform, keep it under 5 MINUTES. That’s right: 5 MINUTES. WE WILL TIME YOU. And we will hug you when we have to stop you [just to make it easier on you (or harder – depending on your propensity for intimacy)].

Poetry, prose, music, dancing, comedy, drama, happy, sad, & on & on & on… Remember: EVERYTHING GOES… so do whatever you want.

You don’t have to perform anything; the audience is as essential as the performers.

Please don’t perform anything with a setup that takes much more time than the time it takes for you to walk onstage. Honestly, plugging things in is endlessly boring. If you need to borrow an instrument, figure it out before you’re called to the stage.

IMPORTANT ::: DON’T TAKE YOURSELF SO SERIOUSLY. Come and have fun. The end. Remember. Someday, we won’t exist and neither will the English language. If you choose to take yourself seriously, then take yourself so seriously that it’s stupid. Ridiculousness is encouraged.

You’re Going to Die. No. Really. You are.

You're Going to Die Presents curated shows steeped in the context of mortality, showcasing inspiringly enlivening musical acts with movingly entertaining spoken word.

On Friday, August 11th @ Great American Music Hall, YG2D proudly presents both friends & inspiring artists, Midtown Social & Major Powers & the Lofi Symphony...

Deeply inspiring & guaranteed to make you sweat just as much as it makes you think, Midtown Social presents a message of solidarity & hope, voiced by a community of people who are as diverse, bold, authentic, & vulnerable as the community in which they were forged. Midtown Social asks us all to come together, to find common ground, love & camaraderie, to fight for our communities, way of life, & rights—and to stand together as one.

Major Powers & The Lo-Fi Symphony plays Adventure Rock™. Imagine Mary Poppins writing songs for Weezer during a cliff diving competition between Freddie Mercury & Tom Waits while Danny Elfman makes out with Indiana Jones during a game of Dungeons & Dragons.

You're Going to Die Presents SEE YOU IN THE MORNING LIGHT - A Grief Release by Deep Pools

  • Noe Valley Ministry

Open Mic Offering from 7-8pm

If you or people you know want to be a part of Friday's event, but don't have the funds, please go to the ticket link, click "Enter a Password or Discount Code" and enter the code: GHOSTSHIP. It's more important to me that you're at the show if you need to be than that you pay.

An evening of music & art, a communal grief release, a live presentation of Deep Pools' new album SEE YOU IN THE MORNING LIGHT.

"See You In The Morning Light" is Scott Ferreter's attempt to shine light on the beauty that grief offers when it is fully felt. In 2012, he moved back to his hometown of Sacramento upon getting the news that his father was dying of stage 4 stomach cancer. During that time, he played music constantly as he soaked up his father's last days alongside his family, and would spend 4 years trying to capture the vibrancy of those days in sound. His intention was to make an album that would invite listeners more deeply into the experience of being alive on a planet where everything eventually leaves.

All said and done, the record has 22 musicians, was recorded across 6 different studios, and includes field recordings from around the world. The vision was to put as much care into the microscopic sounds as the major ones and to give as much space for the difficult feelings as the pleasant ones. Instead of planning out a normal recording process, Scott continually listened to what the record was asking of him, and this meant that the final trajectory of the record ended up being far more bizarre and magical than anything he could have planned. Some of his closest friends and favorite musicians recorded on the record, including the legendary Suzanne Ciani.

YOU’RE GOING TO DIE: Poetry, Prose & Everything Goes...

  • The Lost Church

Doors at 7:30pm
Show at 8:15pm
Tickets at http://www.ticketfly.com/event/1293673
$10 in advance and $10 day of show online and at the door.

No. Really. You are.
